Urbis Design Day

What an event!

The concept of Design Day is a simple  recipe for success.

Guests  are whisked away in taxis from location to location while being inspired through design in all forms.

The day started off nicely  with a complimentary coffee at Mini Garage in Ponsonby. There, Mini promoted their Coupe and Roadster cars with large globes in appropriate theming, and photo booths.

Douglas + Bec  (Workroom Design)  put on a fantastic show; A stylish mini fair with yummy food from Cool Food, the best Riesling I’ve tasted yet (Jules Taylor), trendy gifts for sale, and had models poised in the workroom.

Another favourite of mine was Fisher and Paykel’s Social Kitchen – an experimentation of food and people’s relationship with it. The Cloud was filled with aromas and glimpses of bluff oysters,  balsamic mushrooms with aoili,  cherry shaved ice, and melted chocolate on mandarin/passionfruit and five spice biscuits.

Other highlights included the tub full of M&Ms at Kohler

The HP – Unitec installation

Kathryn Wilson’s Wonderland theming

And last but not least, the jelly shots!

Something to tweet about

Interesting installation I came across when google searching Coat Hangers for my design brief this week!

Quit Smoking or School?

Now that I’m a Graphic Design student, we are pushed to look for examples of excellent and poor design.  It’s not hard guessing what this is..

Do you think the bus company provided them with a template which placed SCHOOL on it?

Such a shame the intended good message was not communicated but i’m sure it helped lighten the mood of those stuck in traffic!
